App Store Accountability Act (App Store Accountability)

What the ASAAt Does

What is the App Store Accountability Act

Why this Matters for Families

Where the App Store Accountability Act is happening

App Store Accountability Act

Protecting Kids. Empowering Parents.
Every app your child downloads starts in one place: the app store. That’s where accountability belongs.

The App Store Accountability Act (ASAA) is a simple, bipartisan solution that restores parental authority and protects children online—without regulating speech or content.

Where this is happening:

What the App Store Accountability Act (ASAA) does:

Ensures honest app ratings
Parents get clear, accurate information before saying yes.
Verifies age at the app store level
Done once, privately and securely—no ID uploads required.
Requires parental permission
Kids cannot agree to app contracts without a parent involved.

The ASAA is about contracts, transparency, and parental rights.

❌  What this law is NOT  ❌

Not censorship
Not content regulation
Not social media bans
Not requiring kids to upload IDs
This law simply requires app stores to do what other industries already do: use privacy-preserving age assurance, classify products honestly, and help keep adult products and harmful content away from children. It’s about giving parents better tools, better information, and better safeguards in the digital world.

Why This Approach Protects Privacy

Most proposals force every app to collect sensitive data.
ASAA does the opposite.

Age verification happens once at the app store
Developers receive only an age category, not personal data
No biometric scans, no third-party tracking
Parents stay in control

This model is designed to minimize data collection and reduce risk

The Problem We’re Solving

Right now: Kids download apps and automatically enter legal contracts
These contracts often allow data collection, tracking, and monetization
Parents are left out of the decision entirely
In the real world, kids can’t sign contracts alone.
Online, it happens millions of times a day. ASAA fixes that.

Why App Stores Are the Right Place to Act

There are hundreds of thousands of apps.
But only two major app stores.
Instead of regulating every app, ASAA focuses on the gateway.
That makes it:
More effectiveEasier to enforce
More constitutional

Less burdensome for small developers

ASAA doesn’t regulate the whole internet.
It simply creates safer guardrails at the gate.

The Bottom Line

  • Kids enter binding digital contracts every day without parents
ASAA fixes the system at the source
    Simple. Effective. Already working.
